How to Make Your Mini Kit Pots

The Mini Kits
If you’re the proud owner of one of my amazing mini kits, then you’ve got a fun little challenge ahead.
Inside the box you’ll find a flat-packed “build your own” plant pot… well, three actually. 🌱
Can You Make the Cut
Safety first.
The plant pot sheet has four grey corners that need cutting out with some scissors. Make sure you grab an adult to help with this bit — scissors and tomatoes both deserve a bit of respect.
Once those grey bits are gone, you’re ready to start building your pots. 🍅✂️🌱
Bringing You into the Fold
Once you’ve cut the grey bits out of your life (very satisfying), it’s time to start folding your skinny pot.
Fold along all the lines you can see. Just make sure my amazing Tomato Cart logo stays on the outside as you fold.
Start with the horizontal folds, then do the vertical ones.
After that, things start making more sense. You’ll notice the diagonal lines. Fold along those so the matching letters meet each other.
If it feels a bit like tomato origami… you’re doing it right.
The Clever Bit
You should now be able to see the shape of your pot. You’re nearly there… just one more clever bit.
On each side you’ll see two sticky-out bits. Take one of them and fold it inside the pot, which will hold your new triangle friends in place.
Now do the same on the other side.
At this point the pot might try to fight back a little and unfold itself (pots can be a bit dramatic). But don’t worry — once you add your special coco coir soil mix, everything settles down nicely.
And just like that… you now have your very own Tomato Cart biodegradable plant pot.
Well done! 🍅

The 2026 Plant Selection
The above is the plant list for 2026 that I will be taking to the farmers markets and events this year.

Tomato Jargon

Key Care Tips
1. Sunlight: Tomatoes need at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Position them in a south-facing garden, patio, or greenhouse for optimal growth.
2. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, watering deeply 2-3 times per week. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases.
3. Feeding: Apply a high-potash (potassium-rich) feed, such as tomato feed or liquid seaweed, once flowering begins to encourage fruit production.
4. Pruning: Remove side shoots (suckers) on cordon (indeterminate) varieties to direct energy to fruiting trusses.
5. Support: Use canes, stakes, or cages to support tall-growing varieties and prevent stem damage.

UK Gardening Terms
1. Cordon Tomato – A tall, vine-like tomato plant that requires support and regular pruning of side shoots. Also called indeterminate.
2. Bush Tomato – A compact, self-supporting variety that does not need staking or pruning. Also called determinate.
3. Truss – A cluster of flowers or fruit growing along the stem of a tomato plant. Removing lower trusses in late summer helps ripen existing fruit.
4. Side Shoot (Sucker) – A small shoot that grows between the main stem and a leaf branch. Removing these improves airflow and directs energy to fruit.
5. Potash – A nutrient essential for fruiting. Tomato feed (like Tomorite) is high in potash to promote flowering and fruit development.
6. Greenback – A common ripening disorder where the top of the fruit stays green due to excess heat or nutrient imbalance. Prevented by shading and balanced feeding.
7. Hardening Off – The process of gradually acclimatising indoor-grown seedlings to outdoor conditions before planting them out.
8. Mulch – A layer of organic material (straw, compost, or bark) placed around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
By following these care tips and understanding key gardening terms, you can grow strong, healthy tomato plants and enjoy a bumper crop of delicious fruit.
